This Saturday I did my first show, the Fenton Street Market. It was an awesome day filled with lots of support and enthusiasm for my paintings. I really feel inspired to keep creating. And I actually sold two paintings so all-in-all it was a great day. I love talking to everyone who comes by my booth. I love talking to the other vendors and getting their input and information on how they handle their sales. Everyone was very generous with both their time and openness.
What I found out, or possibly already knew, is that selling paintings is going to be hard work. Even if someone loves my style or a particular painting, it might not be the right size, or the right color with the right design. There are so many factors to take into account. But unfortunately, I cannot know exactly what someone is looking for while I am painting. Wouldn’t it be awesome if I could? That is why I love doing custom work. The client gets exactly what they want. I might not be able to be as free with my painting that way but I do love giving a client a painting that they will truly enjoy and display in their home. I think I need to do a better job telling interested customers that this is something I can do for them. Sales is not my strong suit! I need to figure out a way to encourage sales without being pushy. Nothing I hate more than a pushy salesperson. Its a total turnoff.
Also, I need to have more products to sell than just paintings. So I am looking into creating other items with my designs. More information on that to come.
Anyway, thanks for all of the love. It means the world to me that I have all of these incredibly supportive friends and family in my life. I am one lucky lady.
