I’m not the only artist in the family

We went to visit Noah in the studio at UMD today.  He is an incredible artist and visionary.  He knows who he is and what are his strengths.  He is the first person I go to for critiques on my work and I take his opinions to heart.  We might not have the same style but we appreciate each other’s unique abilities.  I’m definitely not the only artist in the family- and I am thrilled.  Image

PainterPaige at Kefa Cafe Space 7:10

PainterPaige will be holding a solo show at Kefa Cafe, Space710 in downtown Silver Spring this summer.  I know its far away but I am still rather excited about it.  Kefa Cafe is a popular, long-time downtown Silver Spring establishment that has a coffee shop/cafe and artist space.  It is owned by two wonderful sisters who took a chance on downtown Silver Spring before there was any good reason to go there besides getting on the Metro.  My show will be in July/August and will start with an opening reception.  Look for more information in the months to come!

Bye Bye Paige’s Painted Floorcloths

Coffee Floorcloth

One of my very first floorcloths and one of my favorites

A fun floorcloth

A fun floorcloth

I just closed down Paige’s Painted Floorcloths this morning.  It was bittersweet.  Its where it all began for me about 7 years ago.  Running that little business gave me the confidence to keep on with my artistic endeavors.  It introduced me to a whole world full of great artists/mentors who have taught me so much over the last couple of years.  My first mentor was Kelly Rae Roberts, who is an amazing artist and business woman.  You might not know who she is but I know you have seen her paintings before.  They are everywhere.  I took her business course for artists, Flying Lessons, which taught me so much about how to start selling art.  I took Flora Bowley’s painting course online and it really changed the way I look at creating.  It was all about letting go and just going with the flow.  She taught me to let go of the outcome of the painting and that the process is what is really important.  Other women who have taught me so much over the years are Jane Davies, Alisa Burke, Tracy Bautista and Donna Downey.  They all have online courses and are all amazing teachers.  You should check them out!

A Small World

A few weeks ago, I delivered a custom painting to a customer who found me on Etsy.  The couple lives in Rockville, MD, only a few miles from me so I got to deliver it in person and see its new home.  They loved the painting and were so excited to be able to hang it in their newly remodeled kitchen.  That following week, I received an email from my old boss (we worked together for over 5 years) who said that she and her husband had just gone to dinner at her husband’s cousins house who wanted to show them their new kitchen and their brand new painting.  Joanne, my old boss saw that the painting was signed by “Paige” and she said she knew right away that it was one of my pieces.  I would say that that is some coincidence (or as Oprah says, “there are not coincidences”).  Small world.

New things in store for PainterPaige

Well, I thought I was going to be posting more often but I see that I haven’t created a post since early May.  I will try to be better.

Some exciting things have been happing with my painting business lately.  A local artist representative  got in touch with me through my Etsy site and wanted to try to sell a few of my paintings.  She puts on happy hours and events at local restaurants, inviting local buyers and sells work by local Maryland artists.  The first show is tonight in White Marsh and it will be exciting to see how it goes.  She has 4 of my paintings but will showcase about 30 pieces from various artists at each event.  She plans on putting on approximately 2 events a month.  Keeping my fingers crossed.  What have I got to lose, right?

Also, I am now selling my paintings at Gala Artisan Jewelry & Gifts in Kensington.  I just happen to drop by after my work out to check out the store, met the owner, Linda and she seemed interested in selling my paintings.  I went in the following week to show her my work in person and there are about 15 pieces for sales there right now.  I actually worked there yesterday from 12-5 and will work every other Sunday for right now.  It makes me feel more part of the store instead of just a vendor.
Its an amazing store and feel very lucky to be included.

Now, I need to really start painting more.  My inventory is getting low and I need to get it back up so I will have replacements for the art that sells (see, I am trying to think positively).  Anyway, painting is what I love to do, so its no hardship.

I started painting big- at least big for me.  Some examples below.  One is already hanging in my family room and one will go in Aryeh’s new bedroom when he moves home at the end of July.

I will keep you posted on how my business is going and thanks as always for your support.  You can find my latest works for sale on my Etsy site.

Missing in Action

Hi all, its been quite a while since I posted to my blog.  I seem to get the winter blues where I really hibernate and have trouble keeping up with things.  I sort of lose my mojo.  I wish I didn’t but I have honestly been that way for years.
Anyway, I am back and hopefully will start posting again.  During my hibernation I have been painting quite a bit.  Changing up my style from time-to-time.  Always pushing myself to learn something new.  I get bored creating the same sort of paintings over and over again.
I just posted a bunch of new paintings onto my Etsy site. (some samples below)  I did sell one painting on Etsy a few weeks ago which was exciting.  And I am planning on selling at the Fenton Street Market again and signed up for a few shows this coming fall.  Its a crazy busy time for me right now so I didn’t want to sell in the spring.
Did I mention that my oldest son, Aryeh, is graduating from the University of Maryland next week!
YAH!!  Congrats Aryeh.  We couldn’t be more proud.

Anyway, as always thanks for your support and hopefully you will be seeing more of me in the next few months!  You can always find my latest works for sale on my Etsy site.
